Elsanta
Origin: a Dutch breed selected in 1981 as a result of crossing of breeds 'Gorella' x 'Holiday'.
Plant: Of an average growth rate and on fertile lots and moist soils the growth rate is strong. The bush is elevated, rather free. The leaves are of medium size and also big, elongated, with deep teeth, of light green color, bent-under upwards along the central vein, strongly corrugated, rather bright. Some leaves consist of four leaflets. The caudicles of the leaves are thick and tough. The stems of the flowers are thick and rather branched. The flowers are situated at the level of the leaves, they are big and monoecious. The plant gives few tendrils and seedlings.
Fruits: Middle-sized and large, from broad conical to cone-shaped. The peel is light red with strong shining, at the top of the first fruits it is often of a lighter color and even green. The pulp is colored from light pink to light red; the color is rather homogeneous in the fruit’s section, juicy, very tasty, with the flavor of wild strawberry. The fruits are very hard; they sustain a long-distance transportation well and are kept under the room conditions better than other strawberry breeds. A scyphulus is of middle size, the calyx lobes are easily separated from a fruit.
